It All Started At Age 12...
Burl Richards is a second-generation painter who followed in his father’s footsteps when he painted his first vehicle at age 12. “I grew up in body shops, he said. “Ed, my father, was a good teacher and he gave me a great education. At first, I was buffing out the cars, then I progressed to sanding them and eventually painting them. In high school, I started painting cars for my classmates and over time I got better and better at doing it. I knew early on that this was something I wanted to do as a career.”
With a passion for cars, hot rods especially, Burl began pursuing a livelihood in the collision repair industry after completing four years in the Air Force. He worked at several body shops in Texas to learn every aspect of the business before opening his own shop in 1997.
“I’ve been in business now for 20 years,” he said “We’ve been very blessed. We’ve been pretty successful with our shops, because we stress quality and customer service.”
Today, Richards owns and operates Henderson Collision Center and Burl’s Collision both in Henderson, TX in addition to Red River Collision Center in Bossier City, LA, as well as Burl’s Hypnotic Customs in Henderson, TX.

Richards, president of the Auto Body Association of Texas (ABAT), is well-known throughout Texas and Louisiana for being a forward-thinking shop owner who supports the collision repair industry on many levels.
“We’re known for fighting the insurance companies when it comes to insisting on performing the correct O.E. processes and procedures that are necessary to restore vehicles to their pre-loss conditions,” Richards said. “We’re not all about making money here at Red River Collision Center. We choose to use OEM parts, we never cut corners, and we repair every vehicle that comes through our doors properly, and that isn’t something that we will ever compromise.”
